Giant Fern

The imperial fern is one of the most beautiful plants in the Atlantic Forest. Extremely slow growing, it takes decades to reach about a meter in height. In preserved areas of the Atlantic Forest, some of these plants can exceed 3m in height. Unfortunately, the plant was heavily harvested because its trunk, known as tree fern (“xaxim”), was used as a substrate for other growing landscaping plants, such as orchids and even other ferns.
